Honda Sensing Windshield Replacement

Honda requires the camera to be re-aimed. Here's what that means for you.

Most newer Hondas, including the CR-V, Civic, Accord, Pilot, HR-V and Odyssey, come with Honda Sensing. It uses a camera mounted at the top center of the windshield, often together with a radar unit up front, to run features like Collision Mitigation Braking, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Keeping Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control. Acura's version, AcuraWatch, works the same way.

What Honda Says

Honda's repair guidance on windshield replacement is direct:

  • Camera aiming is required. Any Honda or Acura with the multipurpose camera has to have it re-aimed after a new windshield is installed.
  • The replacement windshield must be a genuine Honda windshield. Honda's current guidance (August 2025) says aftermarket glass can cause camera aiming to fail or the systems to work abnormally. Camera-equipped Honda windshields have a special viewing window for the camera.
  • Installation details matter. Honda calls for keeping the door glass open during installation so air pressure doesn't disturb the fresh adhesive, and following the adhesive maker's cure time.

Signs Your Camera Needs Attention

If your windshield was replaced somewhere and the camera wasn't re-aimed, you might notice lane-keeping that tugs the wheel at the wrong time, collision warnings that go off for no reason, or a "Some driver assist systems cannot operate" message. If that sounds familiar, give us a call. We can check and recalibrate it even if we didn't do the glass.

How We Handle It

  1. We match the glass to your exact vehicle. Give us your VIN or year, make, model and trim. The camera bracket, rain sensor, heads-up display and acoustic layer all change which windshield fits.
  2. We replace the windshield. At your home or job in most cases, with the right adhesive and a safe drive-away time before you leave.
  3. We recalibrate the camera to the factory procedure. Static (targets with the vehicle parked), dynamic (a set drive), or both, depending on what the manufacturer calls for. It's done on-site, right where the car is, as part of the same visit.
  4. We confirm the system is working. No warning lights, and the safety features come back on before we hand you the keys.

Because we recalibrate on-site, there's no second trip to the dealer. More about ADAS recalibration →

Honda Sensing FAQ

Do I need recalibration if only a chip is repaired?

Generally no. A chip repair doesn't remove the windshield or move the camera. The exception is damage directly in front of the camera, which usually can't be repaired and calls for a new windshield.

How long does it take?

The windshield itself usually takes about an hour and a half. Recalibration adds time on top of that, depending on whether your Honda calls for a static procedure, a road drive, or both. We'll give you a time estimate when you book.

Will insurance pay for the recalibration?

When the windshield is covered under comprehensive, the required camera aiming is normally included in the same claim. We'll bill your insurance directly.
